ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUELY-PLANNED PROPERTIES FOR SALE ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES

PROVIDING TURNKEY LONG-TERM SAFETY AND SECURITY

Have you ever given thought to how you might respond should you wake up one morning to discover that:

  • An overnight seize-up of the international banking system has shut down U.S. banks, thus halting the just-in-time food and fuel deliveries to your area? Or,
  • Upon turning on the news, you learned of the simultaneous release of biological agents by terrorists in 8 major U.S. cities with threats of more to come? Or,
  • A huge solar flare impacted the upper atmosphere over North America, knocking out communications and the entire power grid across the continent for an indeterminable period of time?

These types of events have an extremely low probability of occurring but, when they do, they create tremendous dislocations and fundamentally change the way we go about our lives – sometimes permanently. Most people never give them a thought until such a cataclysmic event arrives. But on rare occasion they do (9/11 being such an example) and they can be genuinely life-altering.

Even considering crises that arrive more gradually does not preclude them from being just as fundamentally threatening. Take for example:

  • An ever-widening pandemic from a previously unknown virulent flu strain. Or,
  • The constant erosion of domestic economic conditions due to simultaneous high inflation, high interest rates, and high unemployment. Or,
  • A protracted weather phenomena, such as the “Dust Bowl” drought of the 1930’s.

Each of these can effectively blindside your livelihood, as well as limit your access to food, fuel, services, and supplies.

However, should chaos ensue, your location, the type of home and surrounding property you possess, and the preparations you have made (food, clothing, fuel, medical supplies, vehicles, etc.) would probably spell the difference between a continued safe and secure lifestyle vs. one that is increasingly perilous.

Doug Casey, the Chairman of Casey Research, wrote the following upon touring and staying overnight at the home:

“I visited ________ (location withheld for strategic reasons) to look at a most extraordinary house owned by my friend Bill Kenworthy. The house is 4,255 square feet on three floors, located on four acres with an orchard and a stream. Nice enough. But what’s interesting is that it was planned from top to bottom as a survivalist’s retreat – eventhough to all appearances it’s just a comfortable family house. I won’t go into all the details, but I can tell you it doesn’t miss a trick.”

A Little Ways Downstream

A Little Ways Downstream

There are those who advocate second citizenship and relocation “far from the maddening crowd.” While that wisdom stands on its own merits, foreign relocation suffers its own set of drawbacks ranging from language barriers to being treated as an “Ugly American” / NLU (not like us) once the foreign local economy begins to deteriorate. And unless one is retired and already foreign-located, the prospects of departing the U.S. when you want could become seriously hampered.

No matter which scenario(s) you deem most likely, the answer to all of them is a personal Plan B strategically located in the U.S. to provide long-term safety and security. You already speak the language and integrating with the local community is far easier.

The big question would be “Where should you go?”

FINDING THE SOLUTION

To determine the best answer, years of research and countless trips across the U.S. were made to assess the best candidate locations to be in during a crisis. The optimal location was determined only after an exhaustive list of criteria was considered. That criteria list considered every likely and many not-as-likely but possible crisis scenarios. A partial outline of the criteria assessed included:

Geography & Climate

  • Topography
  • Local Meteorology
  • Severe Storm Threats
  • Hurricane Threats
  • Tornado Threats
  • Flooding Threats
  • Earthquake Threats
  • Volcano Threats
  • Agricultural Potential
  • Hunting Potential

Freedom & Politics

  • Local Government
  • Personal Freedom
  • State & Local Taxes
  • Regional Self-Sufficiency
  • Gun Law Enforcement
  • Population

Prospects for War & Terrorism

  • Terrorism Targets
  • Biological & Chemical War Targets
  • Nuclear War Targets

Standard of Living

  • Crime – Demographics
  • Crime – Social Unrest
  • Air & Water Pollution
  • Health & Medical Care
  • Schools & Education

Only a few continental U.S. locations emerged which possessed optimal characteristics under almost all criteria. Of these places, one stood out as the clear best choice. And that is where an extraordinary home was built to protect my family and other loved ones against virtually all current and long-term prospective threats to our well-being.

THE TOWN AND LOCAL AREA

To preserve the town’s anonymity, it will henceforth be referred to as “Havenville.” The interesting thing about Havenville is that few people located more than 100 miles from it have even heard of it, let alone know where it is. Havenville is almost never in the news and, upon traveling there, most people are pleasantly surprised to find that such a well-established town even exists at its location.

If you have ever driven to, say, Telluride, Colorado, you realize that it is so far out-of-the-way that few people would ever likely just happen upon it (check a map). There is only one small road leading in and the town is not on the way to anywhere else. People headed to Telluride are there because that was their destination (by the way, for numerous reasons, Telluride, Colorado would not be a good candidate location for long-term safety).

In a similar manner, travelers seldom happen upon Havenville. It is not near a resort or any other type of vacation destination nor is it on the way to one. Havenville is not known for any particular product or service, and has no large-scale federal or state spending projects maintaining its economic well-being. It is safe to say that even efforts at self-promotion by its local chamber of commerce have gone unblemished by success. In short, Havenville is not on anyone’s radar.

All of which is part of what makes Havenville ideal. The town enjoys a temperate climate year-round – snow is rarely seen in the winter while summer temperatures seldom exceed 90 degrees. Havenville offers a full array of civic organizations – Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, a VFW Post, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies, 4H Club, and sports leagues covering baseball, basketball, football, gymnastics, soccer, softball, and swimming. While not trying to paint a Norman Rockwell image, Havenville is actually a very good place for a child to grow up, not the least of which for being distant from certain urban influences.

Town Park Picnic Area

Though located in a rural setting, Havenville offers all of the current-day conveniences and services. There is excellent cell phone service, high-speed internet, Wi-Fi, and cable throughout the town. The schools are modern and extend from pre-school through high school, as well as having a community college facility in town. Havenville has first-rate medical and dental care, an excellent municipal airport, and at least a couple of every type of craftsman (electricians, plumbers, auto mechanics, water heater repairmen, furnace repairmen, etc.) one would seek.

Most notably, Havenville is surrounded by agriculture. A number of farms, ranches, and orchards dot the landscape both in-town and on the outskirts. They are supported by a well-maintained system of irrigation canals that supply water from a nearby freshwater lake and a number of irrigation wells. Local food production of grains, vegetables, fruit, and meat are plentiful and would sustain the area for a very long time. Knowledge that the procurement of fresh food and water will not be a problem during a protracted crisis is invaluable in maintaining morale.

THE PROPERTY AND HOME

The specific property selected for construction of the home is ideal for long-term safety and self-sufficiency. The home is situated on a mostly flat 4.33-acre open lot in a subdivision of homes all built on an acre or more. The lot backs up to state grazing land (nobody will be building anything behind you) and has a nicely-flowing seasonal irrigation canal running through the middle of it. A number of homeowners in the neighborhood have horses, as well.

There has been an orchard of 21 semi-dwarf fruit trees (cherry, apricot, plum, peach, pear, and apple) on the property that can be re-planted. There is plenty of room to plant a basketball court-sized vegetable garden (about the size a family of four needs to be self-sufficient) and/or construct stables on the property.

Front View of Home

Front View of Home

The home is built to some rather extraordinary specifications. As one views it from any exterior vantage point, it takes the appearance of a two-story, somewhat stylized, conventionally-constructed A-frame home with redwood-stained siding. In fact, only the redwood-stained siding part is correct. The home you see pictured is actually a three-story home with its largest floor underground in a very nicely finished basement. The exterior walls are 16 inches thick, constructed of cinder blocks strengthened with heavy rebar and grouted solid with cement. Onto that both interior and exterior framing were grafted, then insulated to R-30. Finally, the siding went on. In this way, the walls have substantial thermal mass qualities while also being bulletproof.

Welcome to the rarified realm of survival home construction, where aesthetically-pleasing design is strategically planned to incorporate critical performance and protective features. The upstairs of the home provides 4 bedrooms with unobstructed views extending up to 35 miles, very sizeable closets, 2 full baths, and 2 hallway linen closets. The master bedroom is quite large, with ample space for a sitting area.

The main floor finds the living room with vaulted ceiling, dining room, laundry room, library, and kitchen. The kitchen’s Monarch triple-fuel range operates on either gas (normally), wood, or coal. The laundry room is also back-up plumbed for gas.

Dining Room

The basement features a large family room, 2 offices (that can become bedrooms, if desired), a furnace room with a 186,000-BTU Yukon Husky triple-fuel furnace(again – gas, wood, or coal), a workshop, and a separate computer niche. Despite it being the largest floor in the house, it is possible to walk about the main floor without being aware that a fully-finished basement exists below.
